Hi and Hi by Trenton Doyle Hancock, a mural installed at the entrance to the pediatric imaging suite at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. The piece was the initiative of RxArt, a nonprofit that enlivens the sterile spaces of hospitals by placing original art there.

Nike officially unveiled their new running shoe, the Nike Flyknit, today. The Nike Flyknit features a single-engineered base that eliminates the use of glue, sewing, and cutting in its construction. With a newly designed Lunarlon sole, this shoe is made to be more responsive, expressive and lighter than other running silhouettes. On top of the Lunarlon sole, the Flyknit features a dynamic, newly-designed Flywire technology to loosen and tighten with the natural motion of the feet. The inspiration of the shoe came from feedback of the common runner and features a snug fit that fits like a sock. Set to release this July 2012.

The concept of this line is to create tongue in cheek stationery goods with a medical theme. It’s premiere products revolve around the idea of ‘Grotesque but Cute’, where eyeballs, brain, bones, heart and other medical equipments are transformed into pens, key chains, highlighter markers and stress balls. The crew at Saturday Night Live is at it again with their commercial parodies. These commercials tend to interrupt people’s viewing pleasure between their LifeTime or History Channel programs. From “Opps I crapped my pants“ to “Schmitts Gay,” SNL always finds a hilarious way to look at late night comercials. Lately, SNL has taken a stab at the smoking cessation drug Chantix. This medication, like all medications advertised in commercials, have come under scrutiny because of their exhausting long list of side effects. As a rule of thumb, no medication is truly side effect free. As with all medications, side effects are an important issue and must be discussed with your doctor. Every individual is unique and a medications effect on the body’s physiology will differ from person to person. The FDA requires that these commercials to reveal/inform any and all possible side effects, thus, nervousness or hilarity can ensue depending on how one looks at things in life. SNL keep up the great commercials!!!

Street culture does not normally look to health awareness as their source of inspiration when brainstorming new ideas for their clothing lines. Most “streetwear” brands find smoking tobacco, marijuana, or imbibing alcohol acceptable and sources of inspiration to their clothing lines. But credit to Jeff Staple of Staple Design and Reed Space bringing his “positive social contagion” message to the truth tobacco awareness campaign with the “truth 1585 Collection” . This collection includes eight established “streetwear” oriented boutique’s and street culture stores across the country – Major, Goliath, Bodega, UBIQ, Alife, Burn Rubber, TRUE and the Reed Space

Heidi Klum always goes all out all out for Halloween. This year’s costume has a “Body Worlds” inspiration. It’s a hand-painted anatomical suit by designer Martin Izquierdo. The detail is amazing! I wish we could’ve used her as our cadaver back in medical school..ha!
